Services
GlobalizationSM in Insurance Industry
neoIT - November 2005 |
| With
limited in-house resources insurers are facing challenges in meeting the
requirements for new products development as well as fulfilling existing
customer requests. As a result insurers are turning to locations where
qualified resources are available in abundance. Initially, many insurers looked
at Canada as a potential source. However, even that market is near saturation.
The focus is now shifting to other parts of the world like India, Philippines,
Mexico and Jamaica. This whitepaper also explores the higher order benefits of
services globalization - that of business transformation which is an emerging
phenomenon today across industries the insurance industry included. |

Outsourcing
to the Philippines: Metro Manila and beyond
neoIT - October 2005 |
|
Last month's white paper, Mapping Offshore Markets 2005 highlights the world's
prominent nearshore and offshore destinations for Information Technology (IT)
and Business Process (BP) outsourcing. According to this paper, the Philippines
ranks second to India as a BPO destination and has the long term potential to
challenge India's dominance especially in the BPO segment.

Mapping Offshore markets update 2005
neoIT - September 2005 |
|
In overall terms India and Canada retain their dominant position in the ITO and
BPO industries. However India's weaknesses in certain segments have emerged as
growing gains for newer offshoring destinations. Poland, for example has shown
remarkable growth as an outsourcing destination in both ITO and BPO. |

The China Reality Check
neoIT - June 2005 |
|
End April 2005, neoIT conducted a China Knowledge tour and visited 16 leading
offshore IT services suppliers spanning the markets of Shanghai, Beijing and
Dalian. At Dalian, the Software Park executives were met up with. The trip was
extremely informative as it allowed better appreciation of the facilities and
capabilities of the Chinese IT service?s companies. The visit also facilitated
an evaluation of the state of infrastructure in various parts of China and
approximations of the demand and market trends for IT offshore services from
the western world.

Operating in Developing Economies: Outsourcing, Trade, and Political Risk

Frank Crystal & Company - May 2005 |
|
Foreign Risk is largely a product of local conviction, local social constructs,
and local trends. As a result, foreign operational risk is fundamentally
different than domestic operational risk: whereas liability for negligence is
often one the leading operational risks in the United States, it tends to be a
more nominal risk in economically developing nations. This publication focuses
on the methods of transfer available for political and supply chain risks,
which tend to be particularly acute in economically developing nations. With a
thorough approach to risk management, an American or European company can move
or outsource its service or manufacturing operations to an economically
developing nation without assuming increased operational risk.

Best
Practices in Communicating Global Outsourcing Initiatives
neoIT - April 2005 |
|
The success of the communication plan depends on the development of customized
communication streams that have the end objective of addressing key challenges,
managing resistance to change and achieving stakeholder ?buy-in?. Effective
communication strategies comprise of both internal and external elements and
are treated as a separate function with its own set of objectives, guidelines
and tactics. This issue goes on to discuss the factors that an organization
should consider when developing an effective communication strategy. |

Captive Offshore Development Centers (CODCs): Are they delivering the desired
value?
neoIT - March 2005 |
The increased acceptance of offshore outsourcing with IT departments and
Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) has encouraged the development of global
delivery models through geographically dispersed company owned captive offshore
development centers (CODCs). Capabilities of CODC?s differ based on the
strategies of the parent organization and should be expected to evolve over
time to better align with the overall strategy of the parent organization.
The CODC framework discussed in this paper identifies the key factors that need
to be in place within the CODC for it to move beyond its cost reduction role to
a more value-added role of supporting the parent organization?s business
strategies.

HR Challenges with Offshore Captive Centers
neoIT - February 2005 |
|
Any captive offshore phenomenon presents significant challenges to management,
including the key impacts of managing the organizational, processes, and
finances of an enterprise. The impacts are often felt in the initial stages of
setup, and, if mismanaged, the centers need to be prepared for long cycles of
adjustments and stabilization. |

Analyzing Attrition
CLSA - February 2005 |
|
Attrition has a direct impact on a company?s gross margins. Attrition remains
high despite salary increases and companies may have to slow down in order to
manage the costs and SLA?s. This is however not true incase of IT services
where attrition has shown a downward trend on account of salary increases. In
IT services Wipro, Satyam have a higher attrition than Infosys. BPO attrition
is significantly higher versus IT services and within BPO attrition for voice
based is significantly higher than that in transaction processing. The positive
flipside is that there will be massive recruitments: 150,000 in IT services and
over 225000 in ITES during FY05, 06.
