Welcome to the April 2005 issue of Offshore Insights!

Over the past five years, globalization of IT and other business functions have taken on the characteristics of a mega trend, a trend that represents opportunities for some, threats for others and changes for everyone. These changes seep into organizations at different stages of the offshoring lifecycle, affect both internal and external stakeholders and need to be managed carefully in order to avoid damaging effects such as employee productivity, negative publicity and a myriad of other issues. To effectively deal with these changes, organizations must anticipate the discontinuity that global service delivery introduces into organizational structure, workforce, focus and mission and put in place an effective communication strategy that accounts for the needs of all stakeholders.

We are tracking the offshore outsourcing space to give you updated news, views and trends to add value to your offshore outsourcing decisions. This issue discusses best practices in communicating global outsourcing initiatives.

2005 Outsourcing World Summit Summary
  IAOP

The just completed Outsourcing World Summit, the 17th in a global conference series first held in 1998, brought together more than 400 executives and professionals from across the field and around the world. The collective insights of the speakers and delegates would rival Google as a source of information on the topic of outsourcing.

Analyzing Attrition
  CLSA

Attrition has a direct impact on a company’s gross margins. Attrition remains high despite salary increases and companies may have to slow down in order to manage the costs and SLA’s. This is however not true incase of IT services where attrition has shown a downward trend on account of salary increases. In IT services Wipro, Satyam have a higher attrition than Infosys. BPO attrition is significantly higher versus IT services and within BPO attrition for voice based is significantly higher than that in transaction processing. The positive flipside is that there will be massive recruitments: 150,000 in IT services and over 225000 in ITES during FY05, 06.
