Welcome to the April 2006 issue of Offshore Insights. We continue to track the Services Globalization industry to provide you with the latest news, views and trends that shape the way services are purchased, delivered and managed around the world.

On the demand side, as Services Globalization matures many corporations are exploring newer destinations in their bid to optimize ongoing offshoring investments. On the supply side too, more and more countries are joining the offshoring bandwagon to draw upon the large economic benefits associated with Services Globalization. Take the instance of SEE countries – Romania, Bulgaria, Slovenia and Croatia. These countries are honing their skills in order to more fully participate in the services globalization arena which, amongst countries in the European region, is presently dominated by Central European countries (Poland, Czech Republic and Hungary).

neoIT’s latest white paper titled, “Offshore Readiness of SEE Countries”, evaluates the four SEE countries abilities to attract and successfully implement Information technology outsourcing (ITO) and business process outsourcing (BPO) work. The study examines each country’s regulations, business environment, infrastructure and resources.

Offshore Readiness of SEE Countries
By neoIT In this whitepaper, neoIT looks at Romania, Bulgaria, Slovenia and Croatia’s readiness as supply-side services globalization destinations and rank each country’s offshore readiness. Through the use of the “Offshore Readiness Index” the report provides useful assessments of each country’s strengths, weaknesses and general state of readiness for global sourcing. Of the four countries Slovenia appears to be the most offshore ready, while Croatia was ranked the least offshore ready.

The untapped market for offshore services
McKinsey The global market for offshored IT services and business processes has nearly tripled since 2001. However, a study finds that service providers have so far captured only 10 percent of a $300 billion opportunity. The pace of adoption will be shaped by the interplay of three forces: supply (the capacity and quality of offshore locations), demand (the rate at which companies adopt offshoring), and the actions of industry players.

Services GlobalizationSM: Emergence of a New Driver for Business Agility
By neoIT The maturation of services globalization stems from offshore outsourcing, and results from the combination of economic maturity, free trade across borders, and the emergence of centers of excellence around the world. Services globalization can help companies with a flexible business model seize opportunities and dodge obstacles to business success, thereby providing a competitive advantage. By leveraging services globalization companies can cut costs by having processes performed by service providers that can perform them more efficiently; can improve quality by sourcing talent throughout the world; and can increase its growth by taking advantage of labor pools wherever they may be located.

Leveraging Services GlobalizationSM in the Asset Management Industry
By neoIT A number of factors are converging to prompt asset management firms to leverage services globalization. The need to cut costs associated with new products and geographies, erratic equities market, globalization and increasingly demanding clients and stringent regulations mean that asset management companies must overhaul their operations, says neoIT, and leveraging services globalization optimally will be high on the list of solutions. The report also provides an in-depth view of the services best suited for globalization and actions that clients and vendors should take to benefit from Services Globalization.

People around the globe are more connected to each other than ever before and the economic and social changes resulting from our increasingly globalized world are dramatically shaping our future.
