Welcome to the first issue of Offshore Insights for 2005!
We enter the New Year very optimistic that companies are ready to take on the
task of implementing corporate-wide global sourcing strategies. In fact, in
December, we predicted that over 80 percent of the Global 2,000 will have an
offshore presence by the end of the year. 2005 is a year of growth for the
industry, but it is also a year that companies will begin to invest more in
their globalization strategies. In 2004, we witnessed spectacularly publicized
failures with Dell and Lehman Brothers. These setbacks were mainly due to
mismanaged objectives and expectations, but don’t expect that again in 2005.
Yes, there will be mishaps; in fact, we are predicting 40% of globalization
deals to fail to reach expectations. However, for competitive advantage,
companies will invest time and money in the governance of this critical
component of their overall strategy. Growing a healthy globalization strategy
is how executives will lead their companies into the future.
We are tracking the offshore outsourcing space to give you updated news, views
and trends to add value to your offshore outsourcing decisions. This month we
look at what role a Healthcheck can play in the success of a global sourcing
strategy.

Announcing
the Offshore 100 |
| |
By neoIT and CMP Media’s Managing Offshore
|
| |
On January 10, 2005, neoIT and CMP’s Managing Offshore announced
the results of the first annual ‘Offshore 100’ joint research project to assess
BPO (business process outsourcing) and ITO (information technology outsourcing)
service providers from around the world.
In this first, and only, study created to rank offshore BPO and IT suppliers, Managing
Offshore and neoIT sought to identify categories of competencies with a
goal of setting supplier benchmarks. At the same time, the goal was to create
the first-ever forum to recognize the leading and emerging offshore suppliers.
The results of the study will be beneficial to corporate decision makers
seeking information about the rapidly expanding, and shifting, range of
offshore BPO and IT supplier options.
