Welcome to our March issue of Offshore Insights!
The sourcing process involves many key activities in the planning and lifecycle
management phases. Of these, transition management and contract negotiations
form an integral part in the success of offshoring relationships. How do “smart
companies” manage these changes? How do they ensure that the transition is
smooth, considering the numerous geographical locations that are coming up on
the offshoring map, especially in BPO?
We are tracking the offshore outsourcing space to give you updated news, views,
trends and add value to your offshore outsourcing decisions. This month, our
in-house expert Atul Vashistha looks into the state of the offshore
market and ‘smart’ strategies that companies are adopting to achieve maximum
ROI on offshore deals.

Smart Offshore Buyers: Prudence And Caution Dominates
By Atul Vashistha, neoIT
|
| |
The appeal of offshoring services, not unlike the offshoring of manufacturing
centers in the 70’s, is derived from a multitude of reasons: 1) cost savings,
2) focus on core business, 3) improve quality standards, 4) increase speed of
business, 5) flexibility not necessarily provided by on-shore or near-shore
suppliers. During late 2002 and continuing into 2003, research analysts
cautioned buyers against outsourcing their IT and especially business processes
to offshore locations, citing market immaturity as the key inhibitor. We
disagree with this research finding. With supporting industry research and
customer data, neoIT provides an analysis of the state of the offshore market
and things that smart buyers are doing to maximize ROI on offshore deals.
